Grow Closer to Jesus in the Life You Already Live
Growing in faith begins with turning our hearts toward Jesus in the everyday moments of life. As we pray, spend time in God’s Word, and put what we learn into practice, we also help our families see what following Him looks like.
Pray. Read. Act.
These are simple practices we can return to each day. Begin where you are, be intentional, and keep growing.
ABP — Always Be Praying!
Prayer can be part of your whole day. Talk with God when you first wake up, over your meals, and before you go to bed. Pray for your wife or husband, your children, and the people you come in contact with. A simple, silent prayer offered with intent can help us turn our attention toward Him more often. The more we practice, the more natural it becomes to bring our daily lives before God.
Personal Practice
Before reaching for your phone in the morning, thank God for the day and ask Him to guide your thoughts, words, and actions.
Family Leadership
Ask your spouse or children, ‘How can I pray for you today?’ Take a moment to pray together and follow up with them later.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
Spend Time in God’s Word Every Day
It doesn’t have to be a lot, but it should be intentional. Read a passage, pray about what you have read, and take time to meditate and contemplate. What does it reveal about God? What does it help you see about yourself? Consider how His Word should shape the way you live today.
Personal Practice
Begin with a short passage from the Gospel of John. Read slowly, consider what it teaches about Jesus, and carry one truth with you throughout the day. Target 15 minutes. Keep it Consistent
Family Leadership
Read a short passage together at a meal or before bed. Ask, ‘What does this teach us about God, and how can we respond?’ Give everyone room to ask questions.
Psalm 119:105
Let What You Believe Shape How You Live
How am I trying to be more like Jesus? Pay close attention to your actions and ask whether they align with God’s Word. Where they don’t, bring that honestly before Him. What is one thing you can do differently today? It might be responding with patience, keeping your word, asking for forgiveness, or serving someone who needs help.
Personal Practice
Choose one situation where you need to respond differently today. Ask God for help, and take a specific step to put what you are learning into practice.
Family Leadership
Let your family see you live out your faith, including when you fall short. Be willing to apologize, accept responsibility, and show what it looks like to seek forgiveness and make things right.
James 1:22
A SIMPLE PERSONAL STARTING POINT
Make Room for Time With Jesus
If you aren’t sure where to begin, set aside a few minutes today. You can build from there.
Pray: Thank God for something specific and bring an honest concern before Him.
Read: Read a short passage from John. Pay attention to what Jesus says and does.
Reflect: Ask, “What does this show me about God, and what do I need to consider in my own life?”
Act: Choose one way to respond to what you have read.
Give yourself room to slow down. The goal is to spend time with God and let His Word shape your life.
Help Your Family Grow Together
You don’t need to have every answer to lead your family in faith. Make room to read, listen, pray, and learn together.
Try This Together This Week
Read Mark 4:35–41 together, then talk through these questions:
- What happened, and how did Jesus respond?
- What does this passage help us understand about Jesus?
- Is there something making any of us afraid or worried?
- How can we bring those concerns to Him and support one another?
Let each person share as they are comfortable. Finish by praying together about what came up.
With younger children, keep the conversation simple. Give older children room to ask deeper questions. When you don’t know an answer, be willing to study it together.
